These include a bank, hairdresser, gift shop, florist, newsagent, fashion shop, food retailers.

Travel details to hospital

Train: Trains stop at Cambridge station, which is about 2 miles from Addenbrooke's. There are buses every 10 minutes from the station to the hospital (Citi 1 & Citi 8), as well as a taxi service. For rail enquiries contact National Rail Enquiries on 0845 7 48 49 50 or visit www.nationalrail.co.uk

Bus: On weekdays nearly 60 buses an hour service Addenbrooke’s from within the city of Cambridge and beyond. For a full timetable visit www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/transport/bus_timetables.htm or ring: 0870 608 2608.

Parking on site: If you have an outpatient appointment park,
in the Main Hospital Car Park (multi-storey car park).

Outpatient parking costs:

• Monday to Saturday: 7am–7pm, £3 for each visit

• Evenings: 7pm–7am, £3 for each visit

• Sundays: £3 for any length of time

• Treatment ticket (7 consecutive days) £3

These concessionary tickets are available from the main
hospital reception desks. Proof of appointment/s will
be required

If you are a patient or visitor you may be entitled to a
discount on your parking ticket.

• Oncology patients: £3 weekly concession ticket

• Treatment Ticket – If your child is receiving any other
form of treatment for a period of two – seven consecutive
days, a weekly treatment ticket is available for £3. This
ticket is available from the PAL’S office which is located
near the main reception.

Visiting long stay patients:

• £25 fortnightly concession ticket is available.

Parking spaces for visitors at the hospital is limited. Park in
the Main Hospital Car Park.

Visitors parking cost:

Monday to Saturday: 7am–7pm

• Up to 2 hours: £3
• Up to 4 hours: £6
• Up to 6 hours: £9
• Up to 8 hours: £12
• Over 8 hours: £15
• Monday to Saturday: 7pm–7am, £3

Oncology ward details

General: Ward C2 – Paediatric Oncology.

Direct Telephone: 01223 217231. Hospital Extension: 3231.

No. of  Beds: 17, a mixture of bays and cubicles. 

Age Range: 0-16.

Additional Info: If child is under the age of two, he or she may be placed on another ward. The same applies if the child needs to be placed in the neuro-oncology ward.  If a young person is over the age of sixteen they will be placed on one of the adult wards. 

Please note that no flowers are allowed on the ward.

Ward facilities

Play: A playroom and teenage room are available. A play specialist is also on hand.

Learning: A school room is available with reading materials and associated school equipment. There are two dedicated teachers on the ward, covering primary and secondary education. They are able to liaise with the child’s own school.

Other Facilities: The children’s wards have facilities for washing and drying clothes.  There is also a parents’ room.

Ward routine

Meal Times: There is no set time for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a chef on the ward between the hours of 7am and 10pm, who will cook for the children as and when needed. They do not cater for parents/visitors. Parents are able to eat in the hospital food hall, where there is a Burger King, sandwich shop etc, or in the parents’ room on the ward. 

Rounds: Rounds are not at set times, but usually take place in the morning.  

Visiting: Visiting is completely open for parents.

Accommodation for families

One parent is able to sleep by the child’s bed. Both parents are able to use the parent’s room on the ward, where there is a TV, tea and coffee making facilities and amenities to prepare and eat food. The Sick Children’s Trust provides ‘home from home’ accommodation in Acorn House for parents and siblings. Rooms cannot be booked in advance.
