General hospital amenities

Firtrees Restaurant is open daily from 8am – 6pm and serves a selection of hot and cold meals. Drinks, sandwiches and snacks are available from a range of vending machines located throughout the hospital and there is also have a WRVS Tea Bar.

Bus and Train: Services in this area change frequently, therefore we have listed below some useful telephone numbers that you can contact before you travel:

  • Cheshire Information Service:01244 602 666 – For bus and train information for Chester and surrounding areas.

Parking on site: Car parking facilities are available near all departments at Clatterbridge and are completely FREE of charge.

Ward details

General: The Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology is an adult facility. Young adults who are treated here will be placed within the appropriate department for care.

Additional Information: Wards here are mixed-sex. However, there are designated bay areas and washing, bathing, and toilet facilities for males or females to ensure dignity and privacy are maintained at all times.

Ward facilities

Recreation: Located on the 1st Floor is a Patient’s Lounge which hosts a range of activities including relaxation and craft classes.  Relaxation and massage and a hairdresser who is available on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Other Facilities: The Trolley Shop visits the wards every morning for patients who are unable to get to the shop and a couple of other great facilities are the available.

Ward routine

Meal Times: Meal times are set. Clatterbridge offers a 24 hour catering service for times when patients miss a meal through no fault of their own.

Visiting Times: Visiting hours are open at the hospital, but visitors are asked to leave by 8:30pm. For safety reasons it is requested that you ask if children and expectant mothers can visit before entering the ward.

Accommodation for families

There is a small overnight room available on-site for family or friends who want to stay near a very sick relative. Please ask the nurse if you would like this facility. Information for relatives who wish to stay locally is available from Medical Records staff by contacting 0151 334 4119.

Additional information

Cancer Support Group: This group organises a social event each month for patients and their relatives and friends. In addition, they arrange minibus trips around the Wirral.

Spiritual Care: Representatives of the different denominations visit the wards regularly. They also hold Services in the patients' lounge or alternatively can arrange for patients to have Holy Communion on the ward. There is a chapel in the hospital grounds where patients can attend Sunday Service.
