General hospital amenities
There is a post box and NatWest cashpoint outside the hospital entrance and a gift shop/newsagent and coffee shop at the hospital entrance. There is a restaurant on Level 1.

Train: The nearest train station is Gillingham which is a short bus journey from the hospital (see below).
Bus: Bus numbers 136, 176, 191 and the 139 evening hospital bus service all stop in the hospital grounds. The 176 runs between the hospital and train station (the bus stop is at St Mark’s church). For timetable information contact the Arriva Bus company on 01634 281100.
Parking: There are three public car parks for patients and visitors, although parking is limited. If you have difficulty finding a parking space, please ask a car park attendant to help you. A Pay-and-Display system is in operation. Follow the signs as you enter the hospital site. The roads surrounding the hospital are for residents’ parking only.
There are disabled parking bays near the main entrance to the hospital.

Ward details
General: Dolphin Ward & Penguin Assessment Unit.
No. of Beds: 27 beds - mixture of beds & cubicles.
All oncology patients are nursed in single cubicles. Three are en-suite cubicles and are used whenever possible.
Age Range: 0-16years. 16-18 year olds are accepted on an individual basis.

Play: Due to infection risk, oncology patients are advised not to use the playroom or outdoor play area, although siblings are welcome to. Toys can be taken from the playroom to the oncology cubicles.
There is an adolescent room on the ward which can be ‘booked’ by adolescent patients to prevent mixing with others, for infection control reasons.
Learning: Teachers from the ward schoolroom can supply work and activities for school aged children whilst inpatients.
Other Facilities: There is a parents’ room, with facilities for making hot drinks, a fridge and microwave. Bedside Hospicom is available, including telephone, internet and television (only use of the television is free).

Meal Times: Breakfast is from 8am-11.30am, lunch 12pm-2pm, tea 2.30pm-4.30pm and dinner 5pm-8pm.
Rounds: These are between 9am-12pm.
Visiting: Visiting hours are 12pm-8pm, although parents are welcome at any time.

The care team includes a social worker who can provide support and information.
Staff are happy to facilitate a parents’ support group. Although there is currently no such group, this has been done in the past. Please talk to a member of the care team if this is something you are interested in.
