General hospital amenities
WRVS shops selling a range of convenience items are located on Level 1 of the East Atrium and outside the entrance to West outpatients. The main hospital restaurant is in the West Atrium and serves hot and cold meals and drinks everyday from 7am. There are coffee shops in both the East and West outpatient reception areas. Vending machines and payphones can be found throughout the hospital, and there are two postboxes and two cashpoints.
There is an outdoor children's playground next to the Jenny Lind Children's Department on Level 2 of the West block. It is designed for children under the age of 10. Children must be supervised at all times.

Train: Norwich is the nearest station. The hospital recommends getting a taxi from the station to the hospital. This takes approximately 20 minutes.

Parking: There are a total of 850 parking spaces for patients and visitors. Relatives of critically/terminally ill patients who stay for long periods will only pay a maximum charge of £2.00. Please speak to a member of ward staff about this.

General: All children are seen in Children’s Services (Jenny Lind department) either on the Buxton Ward or the Children’s Day Ward.
No. of Beds: 29 (There are dedicated high dependency beds for children requiring high dependency care).
Age Range: 0-16. Young people aged 16+ are treated on adult wards, often on the haematology ward.

Buxton Ward (located on Level 2 in the West Block, closest carparks are B and C).
Play: There is a playroom on the ward for younger children. Play specialists provide a selection of activities. Brothers and sisters are welcome to use the playroom but must be supervised by an adult. Toys and games can be brought to the bedside if your child is too ill to visit the playroom. There is also an outdoor playground a short walk from the ward – again, children should be supervised.
There is an adolescent room on the ward for children aged 11+. Facilities include Playstations, videos, DVDs, books, music and a mini-snooker table.
Learning: Teachers are available on Buxton ward for four afternoons and one morning each week during term time. There is also an e-learning programme which gives access to a comprehensive range of online lessons via laptops. Bedside teaching is available two days a week.
Other Facilities: There is a parents' room where you can make hot and cold drinks. There is a fridge-freezer. Food can be warmed up in the microwave in Chichory’s restaurant in the West Atrium, Level One, and you are welcome to bring hot food back on to the ward. Parent’s staying in the hospital are entitled to a voucher which enables you to purchase food from the hospital restaurant at reduced prices. Please see a member of staff for the voucher.
At lunchtime parents can buy a meal from the trolley for £1 - this is on a first-come-first-served basis. Breast-feeding mothers get meals free of charge.
Each bed has a telephone above it which is run by Patientline.

Meal Times: Three meals a day are provided for children on the ward. Please contact the ward before admission to inform staff of any special dietary requirements or requests (01603 286321). Snacks and drinks are also supplied.
Visiting Hours: These are open for parents. Siblings and children are also welcome to visit but must be supervised by an adult at all times. Visitors other than parents or resident family member are asked to leave the ward by 8pm.

One parent can stay with the child on the ward in a bed next to the child’s bed.

A cancer information centre funded by the Big C cancer charity is located outside the hospital's East block.
