General hospital amenities
The hospital shop is located on the ground floor near the Admissions Office. A variety of items are sold, including daily papers, magazines, sweets, fruit and toys. The shop stocks toiletries for both children and adults, including items required for your child's stay in hospital.
There are payphones throughout the hospital and calling cards are available from the shop. Parents can have meals in the hospital and vending machines are located in and adjacent to the canteen. There is also a tea/coffee vending machine in the Household Dining Room beside the kitchen.

Travel details to hospital
Bus: The following bus routes stop close to the hospital: 18, 123, 121, 122, 50, 56A, 77, 77A, 210, 150, 613. A bus guide is available in the hospital shop.
Parking: There are two car parks close to the front entrance, for which there is a charge.

Play: There are playrooms on most wards, and trained volunteers in association with Children in Hospital Ireland provide play activities in the ward playrooms weekday mornings and evenings.
Learning: The hospital has a primary schoolroom staffed by qualified teachers.
top of pageAccommodation for families
Parents’ accommodation is available for a charge. Please contact the Accommodation Officer, on 409 6622, between 10am- 4 pm or between 6pm-11pm. One parent may stay on the ward on a fold-down bed - you are requested to bring your own sheets etc.
Laundry facilities are provided in Parents' Accommodation Unit on the second floor, for parents who are resident in the hospital.

There is a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in St. John's Ward and in total there are four social work posts in the unit. All families are automatically referred to a social worker when a child is diagnosed with cancer.
