General hospital amenities
These include cashpoints, two cafés, a restaurant/canteen, The ‘Friends’ Shop and a pharmacy.
Chelsea Road is about a five minute walk from the hospital, and offers a Lloyds TSB bank, launderette, local supermarket, bakery, florist, Post Office, etc. The city centre also offers cinemas and restaurants, including a McDonalds. A new large Odeon cinema complex has opened which is roughly a 20 minute walk away.

Train: The nearest railway station is Bath Spa. Through-tickets are available to take you by bus to Bath Spa station, and from there by rail to a wide range of destinations.
Bus: Frequent buses travel to the hospital. Bus numbers 14 and 714 stop in the hospital grounds and go to the bus station. For more information visit www.firstgroup.com or call 0845 606 4446.
Parking on Site: Car parking is limited on site. Charges apply, but you can get a five day pass for £10.

Ward details
General: Children’s Centre.

No. of Beds: Two special rooms for which oncology patients have priority.
Age Range: 0-16/18, depending on the individual’s circumstance.

Play: The Children’s Centre has a large play room. There is also a teenage room, with a pool table, computers and sofas.
Learning: Two teachers are available on the ward at school times. There is a schoolroom, but if children are not well enough to attend, work can be set by the bed. It is possible also to set up home tuition.
Other facilities: A quiet room is available for children on the ward. There is also a relatives’ room where tea and coffee can be made. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy can be provided.

Meal Times: These are at set times. Breakfast is 8-9am, lunch 12pm and dinner 4.30-5pm.
Rounds: Rounds take place daily in the morning.
Visiting Times: Open visiting is in place.

Accommodation for families
There are a couple of rooms with sleeping facilities for parents in the Children’s Centre. Also, the ward has rooms which have pull-down beds. Provision will always be made to enable a parent to sleep on the ward near their child.
