The RVI is located very close to Newcastle city centre, making banks, Post Offices, cinemas, supermarkets and high street shops very easily accessible. There are many take-away restaurants locally which can deliver the hospital. Leazes Park is located five minutes from the hospital; there is a boating lake and play area.

Travel details to hospital

Train: The closest mainline station is Central station. Metro is available for travel from Central station. The closest Metro station is Haymarket which is approximately a 5-10 minute walk.

Bus: Buses run by Stagecoach leave from Newgate Street in the centre of the city.  This is a five minute walk from Central station.

Parking on site: Due to a massive rebuilding programme which is not due for completion for 2-3 years on site car parking is extremely limited indeed and parking rules are strictly enforced. The hourly charge is £1.10. However there is an adjacent multi-storey car park where families of patients get a half price hourly rate on production of a voucher from Ward or Day Unit staff.

Internally several corridors have been blocked due to building work and diversions are in place which can be complicated and time-consuming to negotiate. External access is therefore recommended – weather permitting.
