General hospital amenities

There is a snack shop, cashpoint, payphones and toilets located in the main atrium of the hospital. There is also a hospital canteen. Tesco and Sainsbury’s and several banks and other amenities are only five minutes walk away.

Other places of interest including the British Museum, Regents Park & London Zoo and Madame Tussauds are a short walk or bus/tube ride away. 

The hospital is situated in the heart of the West End, near Tottenham Court Road and Euston Road with all the famous shops, restaurants and cafés.

Travel details to hospital

Train: The nearest mainline stations are Euston, Kings Cross, Charing Cross, Waterloo and Paddington. Call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50 for more information.

Tube: The nearest tube stations are: Warren Street (Victoria & Northern Lines – five minutes walk from the hospital) and Euston Square (Circle, Hammersmith and City Lines –two minutes walk from the hospital).

Bus: Routes 18, 27, 30 and 88 frequently stop on Euston Road.

Parking on Site: No parking is available on site.  Parking near to the hospital can be difficult. Unfortunately there is no free parking provided by the Trust and metres and local car parks can be very expensive.

Oncology ward details

General: Carousel (T11) – Paediatric Oncology, level 11
Teenage Cancer Trust unit (T12), level 12
T13, Adult Oncology Inpatient Ward. Level 13

No. of Beds: T11 is a 14 bed unit and T12 a 19 bed unit. T13 a 64 bed unit

Age Range: T11 - 0-13 years old (generally about 2-12 years old).  T12 - 13-19 years old. T13  20+ years old.

Additional Information: The TCT unit has 19 beds. Each room has a flat-screen TV, Internet access, webcam and digital mood enhancing lighting.

Ward facilities

Play: There are play and leisure areas on both wards, where your child can access toys, art equipment and a Playstation, as well as information to help them understand their illness. 

Learning: There is a dedicated teaching team and schoolroom based on each ward to help your child keep up with their schoolwork while they are in hospital.  Here, your child can use the IT equipment/computers and access the Internet. Teaching staff are as follows: T11 – 2 x Teachers & 1 x Learning Mentor, T12 – 2 x Teachers & 1 x Teaching Assistant.

Other Facilities: TV’s are situated by most beds.

Accommodation for families

One parent can stay by the child’s bed on a fold-away bed. There is a separate room for parents on the ward, where children are not allowed. Accommodation is also available off the ward and can be booked in advance with the nursing staff.

Additional information

Parents Group: This is held on the Teenage Cancer Trust ward (T12) and is run by the Macmillan Adolescent Oncology Liaison (AOL) Nurse and the CLIC Sargent Social Worker. It provides parents with the opportunity to come together and share their experiences.

Patient Group: Also held on the Teenage Cancer Trust ward (T12), this is run by the Macmillan AOL Nurse and meets each week to enable patients to share experiences and swap ideas.  

Support Group: A parent support group is held on the Carousel Ward (T11) by the CLIC Sargent Social Worker and Clinical Nurse Specialist on a weekly basis.  This offers parents an opportunity to talk to other parents about their experiences in a confidential setting.

Bereavement Support Group and End of Treatment Group: These are run by the Teenage Cancer Trust.  Meetings take place twice monthly outside the UCH site on Saville Row and are usually attended by patients and their families.
