General hospital amenities
The 'Spice of Life' restaurant is on the lower ground floor towards the back of the hospital. Cafe Ritazza is situated to the left of the main entrance. The League of Friends shop is situated on the right, inside the main entrance. This sells drinks, sweets and snacks, newspapers, cards, basic toiletries, etc. Also in the main entrance is a florist, cashpoint, post box, public telephones and a freephone taxi service.
The chapel is on the ground floor, just to the right of the main entrance. It is open 24 hours and the main reception or ward staff can contact a chaplain.

Train: The nearest train station is Ashford International which is on the main line from London, with connections to the Kent and Sussex coasts.
Bus: Route 5 leaves from Bank St to the hospital. Route 10 Ashford to Folkestone provides the connecting service between the hospital and the train station. Please call Stagecoach on 0870 608 2 608 for more timetable information or visit their website at www.stagecoachbus.com. www.traveline.com also gives bus and train details.
Parking: All car parking at the hospital is Pay-and-Display. The costs are:
0- 3 hours £1.70
3 - 8 hours £2.70
8 - 24 hours £6.00
If you need to visit the hospital several times over an extended period, a weekly parking permit can cut the cost of parking. The permits can be obtained from the parking hut (at the top of the main car park, opposite the main entrance).
There are 'drop off' zones outside key areas of the hospital. If you are taking your relative/friend to a hospital appointment you can use these areas to park for 15 minutes free of charge while you drop them off.
Disabled Access: Disabled parking is available and ramps are at all main entrances. There are disabled bays near the main entrances of the hospital where parking for disabled badge holders is free for up to three hours. Current charges apply if parking in a standard pay and display bay.

Play: There is a playroom on the ward and a play specialist is available every day. Telephones, televisions and radios are available at each bedside through PatientLine.
Learning: Teachers can come in if requested from the child’s school.
Other Facilities: There is a parents’ room and kitchen where parents can make drinks and food. Volunteers take newspaper and trolley shops around the wards and run a ward library service.

Meals: All meals are made on the ward and served by ward domestics.
Rounds: Rounds are made daily by the paediatrician and junior doctors.
Visiting Hours: Visiting is open for family members.

One parent can stay with their child on the ward either in their room or next to their bed.

2 Nurses (Children’s Community Nursing Team) are based at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, but cover all of East Kent.
