CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity, is looking for 90 local challenge enthusiasts to take part in an adrenalin-fuelled abseil down England’s highest waterfall in the heart of Devon’s Teign Valley.
The exciting event in Dartmoor National Park takes place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April and involves descending 220ft (67m) down the manmade, Victorian structure waterfall with just a rope to keep participants safe. There will be no escape from getting very wet; adventurers will have to climb down through the water to reach the pool at the fall's base.
Open to anyone between the ages of 18-60, the event is supported by a professional abseiling company who will supply participants with all the equipment they need - all you have to do is register, fundraise and abseil.
Emma Perry, CLIC Sargent Community Fundraising Manager, says: “This is the first time we have held an abseil at this stunning venue and we are really excited about the event. It’s a great challenge for a great cause and as places are limited to 90 we urge people to register with us as soon as possible.”
CLIC Sargent is currently supporting around 60 families in the Exeter and Torbay area, at an average cost per family of £4500. The organisation’s services include the provision of social workers, specialist nurses and doctors to help young people and their families cope with cancer. These services are financed by the Charity through donations from the public with no statutory funding. CLIC Sargent also offers holidays in Exmouth specifically for families affected by cancer. All funds raised by the exciting descent down Canonteign Falls will go directly to CLIC Sargent to help the Charity continue its vital work.
Each participant is required to pay an entry fee of £10 and raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship per person. For more information, or to order an entry pack, contact Emma Perry on 0779 5296374 or email emma.perry@clicsargent.org.uk. Alternatively text the word FALLS to the same number leaving your name and address to receive a free entry pack. More information about the event, click here. The cut off point for registering is 30 March.
Seven out of ten children and young people now survive their cancer in the UK. By taking part in this event you could help the hundreds of children currently on treatment and their families.
