On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April more than fifty abseilers braved the icy cold waters of The Canonteign Falls, near Chudleigh to complete a charity abseil and raise money for CLIC Sargent.
The fundraisers climbed 220ft to the top of the falls amid pouring rain, many dressed in a variety of costumes all to help raise money for CLIC Sargent. The youngest participant, Natasha Down, 18 years-old, from Bishopsteignton, said: "It was very cold and a little scary but was worth it to help raise moaney for such a valuable charity. Once I had done it I wanted to do it all over again." Natasha, who was also joined by her mum, Gillian Down was followed by other abseilers including a lady in a pink tutu, superman and a man in his underwear.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all the abseilers and their families who took part in the abseil and the staff at Canonteign Falls for all their help in allowing us to use the falls as a location for the day. Despite the bad weather there were lots of smiles and laughter and a great day was had by all. We hope to see all our brave abseilers back again for next year’s challenge,” says Emma Perry, CLIC Sargent's Events Fundraising Manager for Devon.
The Canonteign Falls sponsored abseil takes place every year and is ideal for those who want to combine the thrill of a new challenge with raising funds for children with cancer and their families.
