Today, Monday 8 February 2010, in a speech at the King’s Fund, Prime Minister Gordon Brown is expected to announce that every cancer patient is to be offered one-to-one care and support by a specialist cancer nurse within five years.
Lorraine Clifton, Chief Executive CLIC Sargent says:
"CLIC Sargent has long called for the provision of one-to-one specialist cancer nurse support for all children and young people with cancer and so we welcome this commitment by the Government and look forward to hearing how the proposal will meet their needs.
"We must ensure that every child and young person with cancer, and their family, has access to the one-to-one support that will mean they don't lose out on their childhood simply because of a cancer diagnosis.
"One-to-one support may mean a child is able to spend more time at home, helping them to not only maintain their family life but also cope better with the challenges of treatment and beyond."
