CLIC Sargent is calling on dancers of all ages and abilities to follow 15-year-old cancer sufferer Luci Jones’ example and celebrate International Dance Day on 29 April by signing up to Practice-a-thon Dance.
Launched in 2006, Practice-a-thon Dance is a fantastic event which sees dancers raise money for CLIC Sargent by getting sponsored to dance for a set time. The event runs all year round and is a great way for dancers to prepare for exams, performance, competitions or simply to improve! Dance schools across the country are now involved in the event which is supported by the Royal Academy of Dance.
Luci Jones from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, has just signed up to Practice-a-thon Dance as a way of thanking CLIC Sargent for the support the Charity has given her since she was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer at the age of nine. “CLIC Sargent’s Dance event is a great, fun way of raising money for children with cancer,” says Lucy. “I was looked after for over six years by CLIC Sargent Nurses and only finished my treatment six months ago. My friends at the local dance group have all been really supportive and are all keen to use their dancing to fund raise for such a brilliant charity!”
The money raised by Practice-a-thon Dance will be used by CLIC Sargent to continue caring for children and young people affected by cancer. As well as funding frontline care professionals, support in the home and holiday services, CLIC Sargent also provides financial grants to help cover the increased costs that families face when their child has cancer.
To take part in Practice-a-thon dance, register for your free event pack online or call the Practice-a-thon hotline on 0845 121 2490.
