He managed to raise the money, and below are some of the ways he did it.
Thanks Alan - and we're glad you enjoyed your Challenge.
top of pageWell what can I say about this event now we’ve all completed it? It’s hard for words to really express the sense of fulfilment this type of activity brings to you. For anyone who’s thinking about do it and still unsure all I would say is “just do it”. It’ll be something you’ll never forget nor regret and will meet loads of likeminded people. Fantastic!!!
As for my fundraising, it continued beyond the £3000 target. The Dawnwalk I mention in my last blog raised £1200 as many of the participants who paid to do the event also obtain sponsorship from their friends. I was truly staggered by the amount of enthusiasm from those who did this event. Yes, a lot of hard work and planning but this alone gave me such satisfaction. Not to mention of course the challenge of raising the entire funds in the first place. I finally topped £4500 for CLIC Sargent as a result of doing the Brazil Cycle & Project.
I’m left with many fond memories of the trip itself. The cycling was breathtaking of course but I can still recall all the faces of the children we meet at the St Teresa’s care home. Our day out with them to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer at Corcovado was the pinnacle of the trip and I can only hope they all make a healthy recovery from their disease. That day really brought home to me what we were all fighting against and why the work of CLIC Sargent and other organisations like them is so valuable.
I’d like to say a big thank you to Beverley from CLIC Sargent who “got me into this” in the first place and to all the guys and girls who took this journey with me. It was most definitely fun and we all made a difference to the plight of children with cancer. How good does that feel??
