Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham is a Primary Treatment Centre for a wide area of the East Midlands.  This means that many families have to travel long distances to access treatment.  For a sick child, travelling when ill is yet another obstacle to face when feeling poorly.

Treatment duration varies but children often undergo a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which can last for up to 18 months or more. The hospital has very limited provision for parents of children with cancer to stay in the ward so families either face daily travel, which can be disruptive to the whole family, or are forced to pay for private local accommodation which can add an overwhelming financial burden at a very stressful time.

With up to 80 new child patients every year, travelling from as far afield as Bedfordshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire, there is a critical need for a CLIC Sargent Home from Home in Nottingham.
