CLIC Sargent is delighted to announce that the recent abseil from the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham is set to raise nearly £25,000 for CLIC Sargent by the time all the funds have been collected. The event saw 91 brave people abseil 85 feet down from the roof of the QMC on Sunday 27th July 2008.
The abseil took place on a beautifully hot and sunny summer’s day and saw people from all over Nottingham come together to have fun while raising money for the 10 children and young people diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia every day in the UK.
Abseilers included a pub team from the Lion Inn in Basford who all dressed up as superheroes. There were also three furry teletubbies. Rachael Ewing, a CLIC Sargent Youth Development Worker who is based at the QMC and works closely with young people with cancer to help them recover from their treatment, also took part.
Dee Richardson, Event Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent, accepted a cheque of almost £5,000 from the Lion Inn for the funds raised from the abseil. The Lion Inn hopes to boost their fundraising total with a raffle they ran during August giving people the chance to win £7,000 worth of health and safety training. Theresa Singleton, the licensee, also announced that the pub has another £1,300 to give to the charity from a charity football match.
Theresa said: “We were aiming to raise more than £5,000 in total for CLIC Sargent and so far we look like we’re going to smash that total and get closer to £6,500. I would like to say thanks to our sponsors CP Berry Grounds Works Ltd and SPS Group Ltd for all their support.”
This abseil was kindly sponsored by Foresters. Foresters are an international financial services organisation which supports nearly 100 charities across the UK and many local children’s hospices.
