The CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Service recently embarked on a seven week ‘Creative Paths’ project with Play Resource, a Belfast based arts charity offering a unique package of creative resources for working with children and young people.
The CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Forum, Youth Development worker Lindsay Bagwell, our dedicated Youth Service Volunteers – Jane, David, Kelly and Paula and artists Anna O Kane and Bridget Lindsay all collaborated on the project. The aim was to support young people (aged 18-24) who have had a diagnosis of cancer to express their feelings via a tangible piece of art work describing to others the journey which they have found themselves on.
The final result is a 3D model of ‘Planet Cancer’, which is currently taking pride of place in CLIC Sargent Belfast offices. Katrina Black, 23, a young cancer survivor supported by the charity and Chair of the Youth Forum says: “It has been a great way for us to express ourselves, to bond, support and learn from each other. We are delighted with the final result and hope to have an exhibition this autumn’.
