CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Forum recently won a special Young People’s Award from the Newington Credit Union. The group achieved a special award in ‘Overcoming Adversity’ for all of their efforts in improving outcomes for young people with cancer.
Consulting with statutory sector, local youth and community groups, the Youth Forum worked incredibly hard to support one another on their cancer journeys and to raise issues faced by many young people with cancer. Working in partnership, they want to improve community life for young people in Northern Ireland and across the UK.
Michael McGreevy, CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Forum Vice-Chair says: ‘It was great to win the award. It feels like all of our hard work is finally paying off and people see who we are and what we have been through and how we can help others now and in the future.”
The award was presented by Newington Credit Union Youth Forum in North Belfast. This was the first ever Young People’s Awards held by the local Credit Unions in Belfast at the Lansdowne Court Hotel. Other categories included – Young Carer, Young Sports Person and Young Person of the Year.
The CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Forum had a fantastic evening meeting with all of the other young award winners.
The event was also attended by Lindsay Bagwell CLIC Sargent Youth Development Worker, who facilitates the Youth Forum and Kate Burns, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Co-ordinator and local media personality Anne Hailes.
CLIC Sargent is very proud of the CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland Youth Forum and would like to thank them for all their hard work and efforts to ensure the voices of young people with cancer are heard.
