Forty five ‘abseil-utely mad’ people abseiled down Fir Park Stadium’s South Stand on Sunday 13 May in a bid to raise more than £10,000 for CLIC Sargent.
One family taking part were the Ralstons from Chaplehall, Lanarkshire. They raised nearly £2000 at the event, which when added to the amount they’ve raised for CLIC Sargent in the past year, brings their running fundraising total to £7,000. They have been motivated to fundraise for the charity having been supported by it previously, when Corrine Ralston (now 16) was diagnosed and treated for cancer.
Corrine was only four and half years old when her parents were told, on New Year's Day 1987, that she had a tumour on her kidney.
Talking about the success of the abseil, Richard Donald, Community Fundraising Manager, CLIC Sargent, says: “We had an amazing time at the abseil. In total, 45 people took part - each abseiling 80ft down the side of the stadium. They were all brilliant and I’d like to extend my thanks to them, as well as all the volunteers on the day, for making the day a real success. Special thanks should also go to Motherwell FC - for allowing us to host the abseil in their grounds.”
