Staff and children at Red Bus Nursery and Pre-School in Coombe Dingle, Bristol, have donated a fantastic £200.90 to CLIC Sargent, following their successful Christmas Bazaar.
The fundraising event was a real festive occasion, offering guests delicious mince pies and of course the chance for children to put in their gift requests to Santa at his grotto. Face painting, Christmas gift stalls and a prize raffle added to the day’s entertainment and boosted fundraising to a fantastic total that will go towards supporting children and young people with cancer, and their families.
Liz Hogarth, Owner of Red Bus Nursery and Pre-School says, “As a new nursery we had two clear aims from this event – firstly to get to know our community better and bring them some Christmas cheer and secondly, to help a very worthy cause. We chose CLIC Sargent as we have practitioners in our nursery who have worked with children with cancer and we know how important the support received by these children and their families is.”
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. The charity provides clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. Right from diagnosis onwards CLIC Sargent is there and they aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.
The amount Red Bus Nursery & Pre-School donated will make a difference to the life of child with cancer, and their family. The £200 raised could, for example, pay for a Community Support Grant to help families meet the cost of any extra support they might need to maintain normal life when it feels like it has been turned upside down – like childcare, home help, ironing, shopping and so on.

The charity’s national fundraising campaign Yummy Mummy Week takes place between 10 – 18 March 2012, encouraging nurseries to ‘do something yummy’ in support of children with cancer. Why not join in the fun for a good cause, and have a PJ party or teddy bears picnic at your nursery. To register for your free nursery pack visit www.yummymummy.org.uk.
