On the 20 June 2010, The Oldbury Fun Run took place with just under 1,000 runners taking part to help raise money for CLIC Sargent. The four mile race takes place every Father’s Day weekend and is a significant event in the village calendar.
The race is open to all ages and many use the run as an excuse to wear fancy dress costumes! The event was started 26 years ago by a bereaved family who wanted to fundraise with their friends and family in the village. They continued to organise the run for 22 years and handed over to the village a few years ago. The Village Fun Run Committee arrange a full day of activities, including a Tug of War competition and a Treasure Hunt and have many stalls, rides, barbeques and local ice cream sellers.
This year they also had a classic car display and finished the day with Songs of Praise at the Methodist Chapel on the Pound.
To date, the popular run has raised over £100,000 for CLIC Sargent and the current race record stands at 18.5 minutes – a record which has stood for a decade!
