Home > What we do > Research >What is the Community Care Review?
CLIC Sargent is carrying out a major piece of work with the Department of Health about the NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) guidance improving outcomes for children and young people with cancer. We are researching what the care and support needs are for children, young people with cancer, and their families, when they are not in hospital. We are investigating the best way to provide this care and support and we want to make sure that everyone across the UK has access to this support.
Why is the review important?
In local communities there is a lot of variation in the kinds of support available to children and young people with cancer and their families. Often, the support available depends on where you live and how old you are. We want everyone to have equal access to the same standard of high quality care.
What does the review involve?
We have consulted with a wide range of interested people and groups, including young people and their families, to help us identify the top needs for care and support in the community. Thank you to all who have taken the time to contribute! We are now looking at this information and will write a report summarising the top needs. The report will be available on this website soon.
The final recommendations for how we can provide excellent care and support in the community will be agreed with the Department of Health and NICE implementation group towards the end of the year. The recommendations will take note of where good care is already being delivered in the community.
A timeline showing what will happen when is below but watch this space for further updates. For further information on the Community Care Review you can contact Susan George, Assistant Director of Services for CLIC Sargent, by emailing susan.george@clicsargent.org.uk or calling 0117 311 2626.
